Darren

Darren commenced working in the medical industry in 1986 assisting medical imaging companies with the installation of cardio catheter laboratories, CT scanners, nuclear medicine gamma cameras, general x-ray machines & later on MRIs.
During these early installation works Darren was occasionally requested to assess the patient area for compliance and if required upgrade the patient area to comply with AS/NZS3003.
Darren established DLH Electrics in 1992 performing medical equipment installation in conjunction with a number of medical electric companies.
Inspections of Darren’s AS/NZS 3003 initial work were carried out by Lawrie Knuckey, who was one of the original people involved with writing the wiring regulations for patient areas and is widely regarded as the godfather of AS/NZS 3003 patient area wiring regulations.
In 2004, Lawrie recognised Darren’s knowledge & interest in the medical industry and encouraged him to become an inspector.
Over the next 2 years Darren was mentored by Lawrie in the testing requirements and techniques for body and cardiac protected areas. At the end of this period Lawrie recommended Darren in his application to obtaining an electrical inspectors “M” class licence.
In 2005, Lawrie approached Darren to get involved with the drafting of the next edition of AS/NZS 3003 as the committee didn’t have a representative from the trade who worked in the industry on a regular basis.
Darren is a current sitting member on the AS/NZS 3003 Standards Committee and in constant contact with Energy Safe Victoria discussing industry issues and giving assistance when requested.
